Marijuana – recession farming?

Sonoma County California, a place where middle class American’s who have lost their jobs are growing marijuana in their back yards. The amount of space needed to grow a tomato plant will grow  a cannabis plant that can yield between 1/4 lb to 2 pounds of marijuana. When wholesaled to a dispensary, each pound will bring around $2,000.

The term of choice is “medicinal marijuana,”. California has a patchwork of local ordinances designed to enable the production of medical marijuana – and a cottage industry that enables almost anyone to qualify.

With virtually no regulation it appears that anyone can buy seeds, get instructions, and grow their own plants. I am concerned, even though on the surface it is helping people in generating needed income, how long before a market is found that pays more and it gets into the hands of our children?

Marijuana is an addiction, and we don’t need this type of “medicine” made available to the street. I don’t see how this can be controlled. At the present time, it is mostly overlooked by the local law enforcement agency.

I am not against the medicinal use of marijuana, and if it is needed, it’s growth should be contained in  a secure location.

If no one speaks out, we may find ourselves and our children suffering from yet another addiction that can destroy the incentive our nation need to get back on it feet.

Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is the probable reason why so few engage in it.

Have a great day!
