Had an opportunity to spend the day listening to many of our nations leaders. It’s important to take time to listen to and learn from those that one admires. Taking an entire day is a luxury and a real treat, but as i mentioned in a previous blog, it’s something that we need to do on a regular basis.
The most memorable speakers were: Kurt Warner, Steve Forbes, Laura Bush, General Colin Powell, Rudy Giuliani and Krish Dhanam.
Yes, there were other speakers who contributed, as well as a few I did not hear (Zig Ziglar and Steve Nash) due to a previous commitment.
There was as common thread with all the speakers; the importance of faith and God in their lives. Ongoing education was another topic frequently addressed. Family life, for many, is the basis of their success.
So what did I hear: first, we live in the greatest country in the world. When God Bless America was sung everyone stood and you could hear and feel the pride in the 18,000 plus people in attendance. Another statement that struck a cord with me was ” political correctness will be the death of our country”. This was spoken by Krish Dhanam who arrived in the United States in 1986 with $9 in his pocket from India. His love for his adopted country was evident in his talk; he spoke of the opportunities he received. He is a very faith filled man. Another topic was to keep up with change, for example in technology.
All the speakers encouraged us to look ahead and not behind; not to look back at what we failed to accomplish. Excuses are not acceptable as part of a success vocabulary. Next time this group comes to your area, treat yourself!
The great air of education is not knowledge but action
Have a great day!
