Trends, do you see them?

Change is the only constant in our lives. This theme has been woven into my blogs for many months. Accepting that as a true statement, then the small business owner has to know when changes will occur and what changes have to be made in the products and services that are offered.

Unfortunately, there are no “trend maps” for you to follow. You will have to look ahead and explore the future yourself. You will have to create your own ideas about where you should be going and then lead your business in that direction. One thing we can assume, the future will not be a continuation of the past.

There are many signs that lead to change and that will help us identify a trend. I use the example of the first cellphone I every saw. It must have weighed 10 to 12 pounds and i believe it sold for $4,000. What is the trend in cell phones? Is it becoming more than just a cell phone, and offering access to the internet; taking pictures, or providing thousands of other applications? What do you see in the future of communications? How can your business be integrated into this future? Will communication technology be integrated in the clothes we wear? We know that voice recognition is a way of operating your computer, but how about using your mind to communicate?

Tomorrow will never be the same as today, and we will never find the perfect product or service, but, in case we think we found one then you better start changing it for tomorrow.

Almost everything that is going on today may be a sign of a developing trend. For example, our government will continue to grow and will hire many more people. It will need new products and services as it grows, what can your business do to profit from this trend? If the new health care bill becomes a reality, what other trends do you see?

The best advantage your business will have is through innovation. Look at your industry today. Have a visioning session; look at the changes that have occurred, they will help you see a trend. Don’t just focus on your industry, look at the directions other businesses are taking and learn from them.

” Where there is no vision, the people perish.”   (Proverbs 29:18)

Have a great day!
