Working your passion is the foundation for a successful business. Have you been in a department store and saw 2 or 3 clerks visiting while you are being ignored? Have you walked into a small business and been greeted with no smile or enthusiasm by a receptionist? I recently went to a small plumbing supply store, I was the only customer in the store. The person behind the counter offered no greeting but waited for me to speak. As I was paying for my purchase I asked him if he was the owner and how business was. He answered in the affirmative and said business was “lousy”. I wonder why?
I can also share with you a lot of encounters with business people, both employees and owners that had pride in their work and had a “passion” for their work. In this era of competition, buyers of goods and services want to be appreciated. They want to share their purchasing dollar with someone that they feel cares about them and the goods or services they provide.
Had an opportunity to visit with a man that is starting a new business. He shared that his vision for this business has been with him since he was a teenager. I could tell as we discussed an implementation plan that he would be very successful, even though there is a lot of competition in his field. His excitement and enthusiasm was very contagious; long after he left I felt my own passion for my work grow even more. I promise you that in the next two or three months I will share his journey as he opens up this unique service.
” I am looking for a lot of men who have an infinite capacity to not know what can’t be done.”
Have a great day!
