Life Planning is a process that is used to help a person determine what career or business choice to make. I still find people that are successful in a career but unsatisfied with their position in life. They don’t know exactly what they want to do and don’t know how to make the right selection.
The answers to the following three questions serve as a building block in helping determine a life direction. All three of these questions should not be answered in minutes, but time should be taken to examine yourself in each of these situations. I usually allow one to two weeks to answer the questions and also have a visit with a client during the “thinking” process.
- Assume you have all the money your need. What would you do with it? How would you live?
- You doctor gave you exactly five years to live. You will not be sick during those five years, but will die suddenly and painlessly. How will you live during those five years? Where would you go? Would you work? Who would you spend time with? What dreams to you want to fulfill?
- If life on earth would end in 24 hours, what would you do? Who would you call? What regrets would you have.
At first blush these questions may seem “silly”, but truthful answers that have received a lot of consideration will help you set a satisfying direction. Many studies have shown that if a person is doing something they are passionate about, the chances for success are much greater.
If you decide to participate in this process, take the necessary time and then review your answers with a trusted adviser/mentor.
