As a small business owner you should stay abreast of what is happening in your industry. Unfortunately you may have to overcome the perception about the economy that the media is promoting. As an example, this morning front page said that home prices in the metro Phoenix Arizona area are in a decline and that we are facing a double digit housing recession.
When a potential buyer reads the paper, he will now offer less on the home because it is dropping in value. The media is creating a self fulling prophecy. As a result, the seller will net less then he hoped and most of the homes in the area will be worth less as a result of the sale.
This is only one example of the damage that the media is causing in our economy. It appears that bad news sells better then good news in all the media.
I encourage you to focus on the positive; if you have a product or service that is worthwhile, then you should concentrate on the marketing of your business. Even if we have a double digit unemployment rate, the other 80% plus of the working population is in a position to purchase your goods and service.
Growth and profit is tied to your belief in your product and service and also in your mindset. Yes, be aware of your surrounding and the economic climate, but use the information to better service your customers and provide the services that they need.
Destiny is not a matter of chance; it is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for; it is a thing to be achieved.
