Finding a place to start a planning process may be hard for a small business owner. My suggestion is to take a look at yourself; that can be done by asking the following question: What am I tired of? Take a blank sheet of paper and on the left side list of all the things that you are tired of; be honest with yourself. On the right side, answer the question the following question for each item you are tired of: What do I have to do to change?
There is no right or wrong answer, you are the only person who will ever see your list. In a group session, I conducted, these are a few of the “what am I tired of” answers that surfaced: being poor, my clothes, not exercising, my home, lack of friends, being over weight, my old car, not spending enough time with my hobbies, lack of family time, my attitude……. As you can see, the answers encompassed a wide range of topics.
This list that you created carries over to you business; the things that you are tired of will affect the way you work. The solutions to this list may come as a result of something you have to change in the operation of your business, It may mean that you need a better marketing effort or a more efficient way of operating. Often the solution requires you to take a look at your business plan.
Taking a look at your inner self should be done at least once every six months; by getting rid of what you are tied of, will have a positive effect on your business.
Worry is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but it doesn’t get you anywhere.
Have a great day!
