Doom and Gloom – don’t buy into it or…..

I spent several hours today with a client who came across a video about an hour long, put out by Stansberry and Assoc. I watched part of it with him and I shared the following story with him; it may not be exact, but you will get the message. I may have shared this before, but I think it’s important to review it again.

” the story is about a hot dog vendor in New York. He has operated his cart in the same location for over 25 years. He earned enough money to send his children to college and his son graduated and got a job as an investment banker. The son walked by his father’s hot dog stand everyday and one day stopped and told his father how bad the economy was and that he better start taking steps to protect his small business. He told his father that he better cut down on the amount of hot dogs he ordered every day, as business was sure to slow down. The father, knowing that he had a very highly educated son, listen to him and cut his daily order of hot dogs by 25%.

Several weeks later the son stopped by and asked his father how business was doing. The father said his business was down about 25% and the son said it’s going to get worst so you better make another cut. The father again cut his daily order and sure enough his income dropped again.  Next he cut down to four days a week instead of five and again cut down on his order of hot dogs. You get the drift, six months later he closed his business. His son was right, things got worse and he lost his business.”

This video had my client thinking along the same lines as the owner of the hot dog stand. The predicted doom and gloom that was projected by this video was enough to get my client to question his future.

Don’t listen to the doom and gloom stories in the media and those put out by people who are looking to get rich by spreading fear. Yes, our country is in an economic crisis, but the only possible way we can  pull out of it is by having the small business owners build their businesses. Our country is only as strong as the small business owners who  believe in themselves and their ability to change the course of our Nation.

If the success of failure of this planet and of human beings depended on how I am and what I do, how would I be and what would I do?
