Sometimes the best way to achieve a goal is to write it down. This blog has been on my mind for several weeks, and with a new week starting, I need to follow up.
Running a business is hard work and very time consuming. Time for exercise is the last thing on anyone’s mind and a regular diet usually means a breakfast on the run, perhaps fast food for lunch and a late dinner, if there is time.
I am no different than most of you that own a business, but I have to admit that I feel better, work better and sleep better when I put myself on a schedule. The following is my new schedule; I challenge each of you to write one down, don’t make it complicated, and follow it.
- First thing in the morning, walk two miles at least 5 days a week. In my case I am making a commitment to be on the road by 5am. I will forgo this pleasure four five times a month and spend an hour working in my yard.
- I will have a light breakfast every morning; either cereal, fruit and a cup of coffee or an egg instead of cereal.
- Lunch will be my main meal; if time permits, I will have that meal with my wife. Again, the meal should be healthy; including vegetables and a salad. Moderation will by my challenge as I like to eat several helping. Also, fast foods will not be on the menu. My other challenge will be to take time eating all my meals; I have a tendency to “gulp” my meals and get back to work.
- My evening meal will be very light and no later than 7pm ( unless I am dining with a client and an early dinner is not possible).
Running a business, as I mentioned before, is time consuming, but we have only one body to work with and if it is not functioning properly, neither will your business.
A simple challenge for you today, make out your exercise and meal schedule, it may be the most important thing you can do to grow your business.
