Are you ready to take your business to the next level? Gaining credibility is the answer, but how to do it is the question. The following is my story.
At the tender ate of 27 I was without a business and without a job; three young children at home and no prospects. My college training was in civil engineering and my business experience was owning a, now defunct, travel agency.
Apartment building was in full swing and as new apartments came on line, the vacancy rate was increasing. I looked upon this as an opportunity, but how to take advantage of it was a challenge. My research let me to an Apartment News trade publication which was read industry wide. Upon reading several back issues I found no articles on marketing and management.
My next step was to print business cards: Nick Petra, Apartment Marketing and Management Consultant, ( I had never lived in an apartment nor had any work experience within the industry). I spent two days writing an article “Marketing to fill your vacancies” and called on the magazine editor. My effort paid off and my article appeared in print six week later.
The following day, article hand, I started calling on apartment owners offering my services. I was blessed; and within two weeks, thanks to my article, I had gathered enough clients to take care of my family. I continued providing monthly articles to that magazine for years. Learning the basics of marketing and management in this business and much education and experience later, I am still helping small business owners in business planning, mentoring and coaching. There are many online sites to help you write your story. It may take many efforts before you are published, but don’t ever give up.
Passion is in all great searches and is necessary to all creative endeavors.

My point is, the power of the published word can also take your business to the next level. One of the best ways to gain credibility is being published in a trade publication, newspaper, etc.
