Obtaining testimonials from clients/customers can be one of the most powerful tools available to any business. There is no better way to market your business than to have somebody else talk positively about your firm. Before I go on with this blog, it is important to mention that using testimonials in any form (verbal, video, pictures, online, etc) should only be done with the permission of the person giving the testimonial. I recommend that permission be obtained in writing to avoid any possible future conflicts.
Testimonials should be sought from clients/customers and also from professionals in the community that know you and your business. The best way to obtain testimonials is to ask for them. To preserve credibility, avoid using anonymous testimonials.
Testimonials can be used in all marketing situation, including: brochures, web site, social networks such as LinkedIn and Facebook and in whatever other creative marketing systems that you use. One that I saw that I felt was effective was playing on a TV in a place of business in which the firm offered specials and also had videos of customers identifying themselves and talking about the positives of the business service and products.
Think about how many times you have been asked to refer a doctor, attorney, service provider, store, barber shop, etc… Consumers will trust what others say before they trust an advertisement. My recommendation is to use testimonials everywhere, all the time.
Management is about persuading people to do things they do not want to do, while leadership is about inspiring people to do things they never thought they could.
