There are a lot of concerns about the future of our country. I too am concerned, but the reality is that life will go on. My visit this morning, with a small business owner, turned into a “what shall I do” session if the wrong party wins? We talked about the rising national debt, the growth of government, the new health care law and a variety of other issues that were taking his focus away from the business.
Let’s take a step back and look at the big picture. No matter who wins you will still have a mortgage to pay and food to buy the day after the election. The same customers that bought your products the day before the election will need them again the day after.
The backbone of our nation is small business. That’s where jobs are going to come from and that’s where future leaders will come from. Speak about your convictions to your friends and neighbors and encourage everyone to vote. Continue praying for the right outcome, but never give up the entrepreneurial spirit.
Change is the only constant in our lives and a small business may have to look at trends and be open to taking a new direction. There always will be new opportunities. My advice to clients is to watch the bottom line and save cash to allow for the unexpected. That doesn’t mean that you stop growing; a business always has to be growing in order to survive.
What it does mean is that you are constantly reviewing your “live business plan” and making the necessary adjustments to stay in a growth pattern. Stay optimistic about the future of your business and remember that small business is the front line of defense and future positive growth for our nation.
It is possible that the election results will not be best for our nation. Trends may continue on a downward spiral, but small business will have time to adjust and through hard work, lead us back to being “One Nation Under God”.
Unbelief puts our circumstances between us and God. Faith puts God between us and our circumstances
