Yesterday I returned from a two week vacation to the north east section of the United States and Canada.
There were a lot of exciting moments including a visit to the New York Stock Exchange. We had a private one hour plus tour during which a lot of insight was shared about the inner working of the Stock Exchange and even more important, our very knowledgeable host shared his economic forecast. You will find his thoughts, and my interpretation of them, incorporated in my blogs the next few weeks.
This was my third such trip to this area in the last few years and I had an opportunity to visit with a lot of store owners, (we had to do some shopping), and was able to compare how their business has changed, for better or for worse. Even though this was the height of the “leaf peeping season” there were not as many buying customers as in previous years.
I like to “people watch” and I always feel that that is a real indicator as to how our economy is doing. In down town New York, even with the sidewalks full of people, there did not appear to be as many “happy people”. Since I flew into New York, I also read people in dozens of small towns (to avoid the “New York is always that way”saying) in New England and the Canadian coast with the same result.
The top three things that were noted:
- Gas prices
- Uncertainty in the economy
- Older people that should have retired were still working to survive.
For my personal growth, I was able to gather a lot of material for my new book. My goal is to introduce a totally new way to “grow a business” and these two weeks allowed me to listen, learn and to reinforce my findings. My goal is to have it ready for publishing by the end of the first quarter of next year.
I want to especially thank my clients and followers who kept in touch with me via e-mail and also their commitment to grow their business.
A winner knows how much he still has to learn, even when he is considered an expert by others. A loser wants to be considered an expert by others before he has learned enough to know how little he knows.
