Thing Big…Plan Big…Take Big “Action”…Innovation requires it…

Within the life of a business there will be several times when lightning strikes and a new idea is born. One can feel the rush of adrenaline as a new vision of “what your business can become” is implanted in your mind. What you do from that moment on will determine the road your business will take. There are two choices: First, and the one most frequently taken, is to do what you have always done. The second option is to open your mind and heart, take immediate action and explore the implementation of the great idea with which you have been blessed.

In the past 25 years of working with businesses of all sizes I have heard many stories of “what could have been, if only”…….   What could have been is usually in the form of an idea that was never pursued. Sometimes procrastination was the culprit, and someone else came up with the same idea and implemented it. Then the story ends, “It was my idea first. Should have done something with it.”

Fear of failure and fear of taking a risk are two other reasons that are frequently shared. “I am surviving now, my business is profitable, why should I take a risk”? Along the same lines is, “What if it doesn’t work?”

All leaders who have GUTS (Gods Undeniable Terrific Secret) have the ability to make that “vision” a reality.

I am not saying that the research, planning and implementation process is easy, but once it is started the path will not seem as difficult as anticipated. I have seen new energy in both the business and in the business owner’s personal life, as the new idea becomes closer to reality.

Time is of the essence; when the opportunity arises get on it.

Share your vision with your support group and work closely with your mentor during the planning and implementation process. By sharing and working with your support system you greatly increase the chances of reaching your dream. Always remember: it’s good to be in business for yourself but not by yourself.

People are never more insecure than when they become obsessed with their fears at the expense of their dreams.                                                                          Norman Cousins
