Although the weather has not cooled down (still over 100 degrees in Scottsdale) ,September signals the start of the fall season and a “hope” for more business activity. For many of my clients summer usually means vacation time and the time necessary to plan for that vacation. Our kids and grandkids take more of our time in the summer and business slips a notch.
My message today is to “Live your story”. Each of my clients has put on paper their story in which they share their personal and business life. It’s the story that is shared with prospects and is one of the most important and meaningful marketing tools that they use.
A good story shares the history, both personal and of the company. It shares accomplishments and the core value system by which the owner and the company live. The story has to be “alive”; it has to be lived, because if it isn’t, the story line isn’t true.
A story also talks about the benefits of the services and products that the company provides and the manner in which they are delivered.
The underlying theme of a good story is the fact that it is being written about the very best and most successful small business in the world.
If you haven’t written your “story”, then now is the time to write it. If your story is finished, pull it out and review what you said. If you are living the “story line” you are well on your way to another successful year.
Remember, a story is a living document. Not only do you have to live up to the image you are presenting (both personal and company), but you should add to it as your business and personal life grows and changes.
Now is the best time to review, update and live your story.
If most of us are ashamed of shabby clothes and shoddy furniture, let us be more ashamed of shabby ideas and shoddy philosophies…. It would be a sad situation if the wrapper were better than the meat wrapped inside it. Albert Einstein
