Business growth requires connectivity………

A business cannot grow in a vacuum. As business owners, one of the best ways to learn how to grow and to succeed in a business venture is through interactions with others. No matter how smart you may think you are, there will come a time in the life of your business when you reach a stumbling block. Unless you have trusted advisors that you can call upon, there is a great danger of a “business freeze.” This occurs when a business is no longer growing through innovation and market leadership.

The types of relationships that are needed are not developed in a day, week, or even a month. Meaningful connectivity has to be a selected connectivity. Not everyone has the same level of care for others, the patience to listen or a positive vision of the future. A trusted relationship is one that will challenge and stretch your capabilities as well as support your dreams by way of helping develop new insights into your business.

Quality connectivity is not achieved by meeting hundreds of people in the course of a year. It is achieved by learning about people and then selecting a few that fit into your value system and have the knowledge to support your vision.

A suggestion is to write a character description of who would be your ideal “connectivity”. Armed with this information consider the following steps as a way to grow the right connectivity opportunity:

  • If you have identified someone by name, search your data base and see if anyone can provide an introduction. If not, bite the bullet and make an appointment on your own. It’s amazing the results you can obtain if you just ask.
  • There are many functions, everything from networking meetings to chamber meetings to trade association to………………………    Research what is available and look at the membership of the organization before you make a long term commitment to participate. Networking is one of the most popular types of meetings; but in my opinion, unless there is a support system associated with it and the members of the networking group meet your character profile, don’t waste your time. Be selective and take your time, there are opportunities for you to be visible in the “right circles.”

Making the right connections is an ongoing process, you can never have too many. Rise above the ordinary and always reach for the stars.

The ability to connect with others begins with understanding the value of people.
